Welcome to COMMUNITY GIS
Southern Tier West has been given the opportunity to serve GIS to local governments via the Internet. In 2000, the Community GIS Program began through a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission. Selected communities created new data or gave Southern Tier West existing data that was put into GIS format to be seen in a viewer. With this, communities are to perform numerous operations with their data, each according to their own needs.

Becoming A MemberYour community must have a use for the system and understand the basic premise behind GIS and be able to demonstrate how you will use the system in your community. Practical uses include economic development, infrastructure management, planning, assessment, code enforcement, and public safety.
Reliable Internet AccessEnsure that whomever will be utilizing the system has reliable internet access and a web browser; preferably Internet Explorer 6.x. High-speed access is not required, however higher speeds will greatly improve performance.
